Keep Learning: COMMpla at the Italian Agile Days 2022

COMMpla took part in the Italian Agile Days conference organised by the Italian Agile Movement in Brescia on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th October. IAD is the most prestigious Agile-themed conference in Italy, is free of charge and is a reference point for the entire Italian Agile community.

The first day of the conference was devoted to workshops (12 workshops available), usually sold-out after 15-20 minutes of registration opening) and the second to talks (37 in total) organised in four main tracks.

Who takes part in IAD? The answer is quite a mix of people… Developers, DevOps, Scrum Masters, Agile Coaches, Product Owners, Project Managers, Lean experts, or those that are simply curious.

It has to be said that being Agile is a mindset and not a path. Were it to be a path, there would be a starting point, an endpoint and consequently, a way forward. Having a mindset means being totally convinced of an idea. Specifically, if someone were to ask how long it takes to become Agile, the answer would definitely be infinite time.

So why does COMMpla take part in this type of conference? The answer is that we are convinced that we never stop learning from the experience of others, from sharing knowledge, and from the feedback we give and are given by the people we are connected to. IAD is a focal point for the Agile community in Italy. COMMpla participated in IAD22 with a completely open mind and with the determination to absorb as much shared experience as possible to apply them to daily life and work. If the objective was to improve oneself each day, then it would be enough to read a blog and watch a video. But in the infinite, Agile journey, we need to get to know the company’s culture and the people who work in it, to analyse ourselves, to identify problems or to simply observe glimmers of improvement.

The main takeaways from the event were:

– Lots of new ideas and thoughts to put into progress

– The desire to improve any aspect of ourselves or our work

– Lots of long-standing colleagues to meet up with again

We certainly came back from the event much richer in experience than before, with a more open mind yet still full of questions. Now we are at work to process the experience and treasure every pointer the event delivered.
